Combat

Magic

  • Magic gives a huge, undetermined modifier to the way combat goes. More powerful magic means you inflict more casualties and take fewer yourself. To have more powerful magic, you simply need to send more reserve mana than your enemy does during the fight.
  • Gain reserve mana by not spending it all on blessings, performing hero quests, and following actions that are similar to those of your ancestors.
  • Most enemies will use 1-2 magic when fighting you so it is never necessary to use more than 3 mana.

  • Defensively - Take fewer casualties

Humakt

  • Offensively - Inflict higher casualties on the enemy
  • Defensively - ? (Possibly inflicts higher casualties)

Objective

Drive them off - Use when outnumbered in a raid. Benefits greatly from Skirmish and Charge.
Kill as many as possible - Use when you have roughly even forces. Higher casualties than normal on both sides. Benefits from Maneuver and Charge.
Take captives - Use only when victory is assured. Higher casualties and failure rate. Benefits from Maneuver and Charge.
Survive - Use when heavily outnumbered or desperate to not take casualties. Highest victory odds. Benefits from Skirmish and Evade.

Tactics

Skirmish - Inflicts higher injury rates on the enemy and good to use if the enemy is likely to retreat.
Maneuver - Highest success odds if you will not be charged.
Charge - Lowest success odds. Takes extra casualties from skirmishers but stops sacrifices and Maneuvers.
Evade - Highest success odds if you are charged. Few to no casualties but greatly reduce damage dealt to enemies as well.

Attacks

Plunder - Second most successful attack type, few casualties and injuries. Most basic offensive attack that takes cattle and goods with a chance to take Sheep, Food, and Women as captives.
Burn steads - Third most successful attack type, few casualties and injuries. Minimal loot, only ever goods and cattle if anything. Weakens the population making future attacks easier.
Kill as many as possible - Third most difficult attack type, highest casualties and injuries. Significantly weakens the enemy population making future attacks easier.
Destroy Fortifications - Fourth most successful attack type, many casualties and injuries. Significantly weakens the enemy for future attacks.
Seize their land - The Most difficult attack type, high casualties and injuries. Takes a section of the enemy land, usually takes 2-3 attacks to take all of the clans land. Can only be performed on enemy clans adjacent to one of your borders. Also can take goods, cattle, sheep, and prisoners.
Take captives - Second most difficult attack type, high casualties and injuries. Weakens the population making attacks easier. Captives can be freed to improve relations, killed to intimidate them (Faster and more tribute), taken as thralls for labor, or ransomed back for 5 Goods a head.
Survival - Most successful attack type, fewest casualties and injuries. Use if you make a bad attack and are heavily outnumbered

Patrols

Inner - Increases the odds of spotting and rallying against a Raid (tip: Good if you have lots of feuds)
Outer - Increases the odds of spotting and rallying against a Cattle Raid (tip: Good if you're peaceful)

Fortifications

Ditch - Protects you from Raiders trying to take captives or burn steads
Ramparts - Protects you from Raiders trying to take captives or burn steads
Watch Tower - Increases odds to spotting Cattle Raiders or Raiders
Stake Perimeter - Protects you from Raiders trying to Plunder
Wooden Stockade - Protects you from Raiders trying to Plunder
Stone Wall - Protects you from Raiders trying to Seize Land

Land Usage
